My favourite musician, Ian Curtis, was an incredibly troubled man, who, I am afraid, did not know what love means. Nevertheless, I admire him greatly, the music and song lyrics are pure genius. I think that movie shows how him and his fellow band members changed just because of fame, how tough it is to please the fans and how isolated you can acctually feel when hurting the people who care about you when others fake care, how those people can turn against you when you make just a little mistake. And keep on making it over and over again. Ian was also very scared. Now it occurs to me that his life must have been nothing but pain rarely filtered with little pleasures. Ian was torn between Debbie and Natalie - his family, the band and the love for another woman. What also got in the way of a normal way of life was also epilepsy. Ian thought he could have all this and he couldn't, that's why he commited suicide.
Even though I watched it with my mum, who was full of critique for the genius, through the whole film she didn't say a good thing about him, not once. She called him a dick, son of a bith, etc. Those words were acctually adressed to my dad, who cheatted on her a few years ago (she had forgiven him but haven't forgotten and brings up the matter every few weeks or months).
My mothers opinion doesn't matter. Even though Ian made a few mistakes in his life, they were understandable, forgiven and forgotten. Now all that we've got left is the music he left behind.
